As
part of a complete golf complex comprised of two 18-hole
courses, 9-hole par 3 course, and driving range,
Currie East is the original 18-hole
layout designed and constructed by Mr. Gilbert Currie, the man for whom
Currie Municipal Golf Course is named. Mr. Currie’s vision was to provide a reasonably priced, beautifully designed course for all citizens to enjoy.
The land for this original course was donated to the City of Midland by the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation. It is a traditional course that went through a redesign on holes 1, 5, 8, 9, 13, 14, 16, and 18 in the mid-1990s by Michigan golf architect Jerry Matthews of Natural Course Design. The layout and conditions of Currie East are generally representative of comparable courses in the tri-county area with four tee boxes and an average course and slope rating,
which can accommodate all skill levels.
The Currie East clubhouse has been re-opened this year,
making check-in more convenient.
